Self Care Ideas For Women–The Focus Is All On You

Self Care? Why Do It Ladies?

Are you asking yourself what is all this talk about self care? Why is it important and how do I go about doing it?

It has turned into a hot buzz word in Hollywood and all over the media, but it has grown to be even more important especially with all the pressures and daily grind of our lives ladies.

Many of us feel like we don’t have time to even do the necessities in life such as eat, sleep and drink water. We are running around taking care of our loved ones, working and just surviving.

Self care really is all about you! For you, by you! Really taking a look at what you need and setting aside some time to address those needs.

Taking care of yourself just like you care for those around you all day long. It is critical for our mental, emotional and physical health.

The most important person is YOU and maintaining that healthy relationship with self. You won’t be able to be present and give to others in return.

Self care is a way to give yourself an energy, self-esteem and confidence boost!

Let’s get started with your self care ideas and some easy tips!

YOGA

Yoga is probably one of my favorite workouts of all time! It brings you strength, balance, flexibility, helps with pain management, energy and mental health. What an amazing way to start any day!

Have you ever tried a yoga class?

I know many of us don’t have the time to step into a gym or yoga studio.

Gaia can be a great option to do right in your home! Gaia has various types and levels of yoga :hatha, vinyasa and more. Check it out here! So you can never get bored.

TIP: Start with beginners yoga and a few moves. Yoga is a progressive exercise and takes time so don’t feel like you have to master it in one session.

CARDIO

Pick an activity that gets your heart pumping and blood flowing! Everyone thinks it has to be for an hour which isn’t so.

You can can do 5 minutes, 10 minutes and break it up throughout the day which will not make it seem so overwhelming to fit into your schedule.

Running, swimming, kickboxing, one of my favorites is Zumba or barre classes. Find what you are passionate about and gets you excited to go.

TIP: Pick out your outfit the night before and have it laid out so it’s staring you in the face upon awakening! Make sure you like the outfit and you feel good in it as it will improve your attitude about the workout too!

 

SPA

I am all about taking a break for an hour massage, manicure, pedicure or facial. It can be expensive and understood that some of us don’t have time to get away for a complete hour.

Not a problem! You can have your own spa time at home! You can give yourself a facial, lip scrub, hair mask, manicure and pedicure.

I enjoy taking a1/2 hour throughout my week to select one evening to do my nails and another evening a hair mask while I read a good book.

TIP: Easy exfoliating lip scrub:

1-2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp coconut or moringa oil

Mix together and I like to put mine in a cleaned out moisturizer jar or a plastic  container will do too.

READ

Reading is good for you! In a Bustle article, reading lowers blood pressure and heart rate. It increases brain power, memory and empathic skills.

Do you have a book list that doesn’t quit like me? I literally have probably over 50 books on my list that I am hoping to get to one day! My favorites are self-help and magazines with yoga, fashion, fitness and recipes!

Pick up a magazine, book, newspaper whatever you are reading choice may be and start increasing your memory and attention span!

TIP: Read 3-4 pages a day of a book. That way it feels achievable and you will be shocked how many books you will quickly get through too.

JOURNAL

Who has time to sit and write every day? We all spend so much time on computers reading and answers emails.

There are many ways and types of journaling such as bullet journaling ,but there isn’t any certain way to do it.

Journaling increases self awareness and lays out what is in your head to paper to become achievable.

Just grab a pen, notebook and start writing your thoughts and what comes to you!

TIP: Buy yourself a really pretty, inspiring journal to write in. It will make you want to grab it and get your writing juices flowing.

LAUGHTER

When is the last time you had a real hearty belly laugh, beautiful ladies? You know the ones that make you cry and your can’t figure out later why you feel like you did 100 sit ups!

Laughter is so good for the soul, decreases stress and best the very best part is that it releases endorphins the natural feel good chemical.

Pop on your favorite comedy show or movie. Be at the moment and enjoying what you are watching!

TIP: Need a quick lift at work or having a down moment. Watch funny clips on you tube! I do it all the time from some of my favorite shows or movies and it instantly lifts my day. Start a folder on you tube and save them so you have them readily available.

MEDITATE

Are you looking for the magic pill to reduce stress, have more self awareness, impulse control, increase your attention span? Than you MUST try meditation!

I never in a million years thought I would have the patience to do meditation and it took patience and time for me to be able to do it.

Find at least 5 minutes a day to meditate and start small so you don’t feel too overwhelmed by it.

TIP: To help with your meditation practice start with guided meditations and all you have to do is put your head phones on and sit back and follow the guide to a more relaxed you!

NATURE

Get out and enjoy nature! Remember the days as a child where you couldn’t get enough of being outside?

Walking, biking, jogging, hiking outside in the park, by the beach, in the mountains do whatever you enjoy being out in nature.

Pick flowers, plant a tree, grow a garden just a few fun ideas.

TIP: On your lunch break go outside and find an area of grass and take off your shoes and walk around! ENJOY NATURE!

SILENCE

When is the last time you really sat and didn’t do, think or say anything? This was probably the hardest self care practice I have really challenged myself to try.

We are running and the world is running at 1000 miles a minute with work, commuting, dogs, kids, cooking, cleaning ..the list goes on and on.

It is probably one of the most powerful thing to do is to sit completely still with no interruptions! Try it you just might like it!

TIP: Set a timer on your phone for 5 minutes to sit alone in silence. It will feel so long at first and as you continue to do it you will look forward to it.

BATH

Who doesn’t love a hot steamy bath ladies? It has to be my favorite thing to do after a long day and I need to recharge my energy and myself.

You can shut the door from the world and truly spend some alone time.

I will sometimes take a good book with me, a glass of wine or hot tea depending on the day or just sit in silence!

TIP: Try this easy relaxing bath recipe:

1/2 cup Epsom salt

10 drops of lavender oil

Light your favorite candle

Put on your favorite relaxing music & enjoy!

AFFIRMATIONS

How many times a day do we say to ourselves I feel so big in this outfit or I don’t like my hair today?

The action of affirmations will assist in your positive mood and outlook on life. To fill our hearts and life with gratitude.

Try coming up with 3-5 to say daily to yourself or out loud. Make them your own and meaningful to you.

I have a list of affirmations and a list of I am____ that I read out loud daily or as needed throughout my day.

TIP: Louise Hay, legend in self-help and motivation, loved affirmation mirror work. Look in a mirror and look into your eyes while you say your affirmations out loud. See what feelings come up for you.

FOOD

Eat healthy fresh fruits, vegetables, grass fed meats and 3 balanced meals a day! Simple concept, but many of us skip meals or are having quick replacement meals.

Your health starts with what you put in your mouth and body.

TIP: Meal prep for the week on a Sunday afternoon or evening. Bring out your crock pot too! I will cook food for the week so my healthy eating stays on track during my busy work week. It also helps to not grab unhealthy snacks at work too!

PASSION

I wanted to include passion in self care as this is very important. Do you feel passionate about your job? Do you enjoy getting up and going to work most days?

You might surprise yourself and find out you need to switch gears in your life or find a different avenue within your career to take.

TIP: Take out your journal and start writing about what you like, why and what your purpose in that area may be.

START TODAY

Ladies we are all superheroes in our lives, but you are important too! Take time to recharge your batteries.

You may even discover some new hobbies or things you didn’t know about yourself. How freaking cool is that!

Your emotional and physical health should be top priority.

If we don’t have our health we have nothing!
