What Is Cuffing Season?

Let’s get the biggest question out of the way! What the heck is cuffing season? No, no it’s not some crazy term from the erotic world.

Cuffing season in Urban dictionary terms is: During the Fall and Winter months people who would normally rather be single or promiscuous find themselves along with the rest of the world desiring to be “Cuffed” or tied down by a serious relationship. The cold weather and prolonged indoor activity causes singles to become lonely and desperate to be cuffed.

The summer months we are traveling, having fun at the beach with friends and family it doesn’t seem to be as much of a big deal to be single in the summer.

Season usually starts around October and takes you through the month of March. This means you have the big valentine’s day holiday mixed into cuffing season too which can be fun or complex.

Just all depends on what type of situation you get yourself into or you are looking for.

The Dating app Hinge found that men are 15% more likely to be actively looking for a relationship in winter than at any other time of year.

The idea of a cuffing season relationship is to light, fun and last during the winter months only for cuddling, intimacy and than once it warms up, it’s back to the single game for most.

This is a great video explaining cuffing season from USAToday.

While I don’t necessarily love this idea myself or think it’s very romantic, I do get it to some levels, especially in the frozen tundra of the upper Midwest and northeast of the US, in the winter months.

Let’s take a look at some tips to follow for the season!

5 To Do Tips Of Cuffing Season

1-Look for someone who compliments your Netflix and Chill mode with those chilly winter months rolling around. If you are a sports fan look for someone who loves not football, but a variety of sports.

Those winter months and weekends can be very long.

2-Do respond to text and phone calls as you don’t want the person to take off on you before the cuffing season even begins

3-Do talk about your expectations especially for the holidays. Do you want to see each other’s family and friends? This is where a fun thing could go seriously wrong if this isn’t clear a head of time.

4-If you are at the 2- 2 1/2 month mark with in your cuffing relationship it is a good idea to talk about how you are feeling.

Most can tell if it is just for fun or if you are developing feelings for someone and may want to see where it goes.

Honesty is best and that way neither party will get hurt. If you aren’t feeling the person it’s best to end it now, not wait until the end of the season for your own selfish reasons.

5-Do think if you are ready to jump into the cuffing season! We all know relationships aren’t easy, but just getting out of relationship doesn’t mean cuffing season is the answer for you.

5 Don’t Tip For Cuffing Season

1-Don’t hold on to your summer bae! You don’t need to have a collection for all the seasons.

2-The cuffing season is to be for the winter months only so the idea of getting attached is a no go for most. This person is for watching TV, cuddling and getting you through those winter blues.

3-Don’t post pictures on social media as flaunting your winter fling may not be the best idea especially if you plan to go back being single in the summer months.

4-Don’t spend too much time together or being inseparable of each other. Unless you both are okay with being each other’s seasonal cuff buddy than you just enjoy the time being together.

5-Don’t lose sight of YOU and your goals in your life, because you are hanging out with this new relationship.

2-A dating site such as Ok Cupid, is not a paid site and is fairly easy to use and set up. There are ton of dating site options depending on what you are really looking for and how much you want to pay too.

3-Starbucks or a local cool hip coffee shop in the area or neighborhood you live in. Who isn’t grabbing a coffee or hot beverage to keep warm in the winter months?

4-Grocery store such as Whole Foods or Fresh Market where your potential Netflix and Chill date is buying dinner to cook or some sushi.
